Here's the gist

Since 1986, Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) has used medicine and science to document and call attention to mass atrocities and severe human rights violations. This is a top priority project to overhaul PHR online map of attacks on health care in Syria. Must be completed by May 2017.

Problem

PHR first launched our online Syria that included 150 attacks on medical facilities. With limited technological expertise, we built a visual overview that worked well for this limited universe. Today, we have over 400 attacks listed on the map, many clustered in the same areas, but with complex perpetrators and timeline data attached. The map has no search or filter capabilities, making it complicated to maneuver for non-experts.

Goal

Overhaul PHR’s current online Syria map and create a more user-friendly version that allows users (a large proportion is from the media) to do search, sort, filter, and trends/patterns identification.
